The Ogun State Government has intensified its digital transformation drive with plans to upscale all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) onto a unified Sovereign Cloud, aimed at enhancing data security, efficiency and seamless service delivery.
The Special Adviser on ICT, Dayo Abiodun, disclosed this during a two-day strategic workshop for heads of MDAs held at the Ogun TechHub.
The workshop was organised by the state government in collaboration with GetFunded Africa and the American Consulate.
Represented by the Director, Standard Regulations, Planning and Research, Mrs. Olatundun Adekunte, Abiodun explained that the Ogun State Sovereign Cloud is a localised data centre designed to host government data within the state, thereby eliminating jurisdictional risks associated with foreign-based cloud systems.
He noted that the initiative would unify government files, operations and revenue dashboards across MDAs, ensuring better coordination, transparency and protection of classified information.
According to him, the Sovereign Cloud is equipped with advanced security features, including military-grade encryption and multi-factor authentication, ensuring that all digital interactions are secure and traceable.
“Histories and sensitive data of all MDAs will remain within our borders, under our control,” he said, adding that the initiative marks a significant shift towards data sovereignty and improved governance.
Earlier, the State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, declared the workshop open and emphasised the need for full compliance with digitalisation across the civil service.
He urged Permanent Secretaries and Directors to embrace the new system and lead their respective MDAs with digital competence and innovation.
In their reactions, Permanent Secretary, Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Olayinka Elemide, said the initiative would enhance inter-agency communication and improve access to official documents, while his counterpart in the Ministry of Justice, Mr. Olusegun Olaotan, described the move as proactive in tackling data breaches and revenue leakages.
They commended the state government for aligning with global best practices in data management and digital governance.
The adoption of the Sovereign Cloud underscores Ogun State’s commitment to building a secure, efficient and technology-driven public service.
