The Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area has launched a poultry development initiative aimed at enhancing food security, improving protein intake, and creating employment opportunities for residents.
The Executive Chairman, Lawal Wasiu, disclosed this at the council secretariat, noting that the revitalisation of the local government’s poultry facility in Ado-Odo would significantly increase egg production and make the commodity more affordable.
He explained that the council had procured 10 additional battery cages to expand the housing capacity for birds, alongside the acquisition of 1,000 pullets to drive large-scale egg production. According to him, modern poultry equipment, including feeders and drinkers, had also been secured to ensure proper feeding practices and maintain high hygiene standards.
Wasiu described the initiative as a clear demonstration of his administration’s commitment to sustainable agriculture and improved livelihoods for the people.
“The scheme reflects our dedication to sustainable agricultural practices and the economic well-being of our residents,” he said.
He added that the programme is expected to boost local egg production, generate employment, and reduce dependence on external food sources.
Meanwhile, repair works have commenced at the poultry facility in Ado-Odo, marking a significant step toward improving nutrition, stimulating economic growth, and promoting sustainable development within the council area.
The poultry development initiative, he noted, aligns with the council’s broader agricultural agenda, which prioritises economic empowerment and the establishment of sustainable food systems.
