The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, has been honoured as a Matron of the Lutheran Church of Nigeria National Women Fellowship, LCNWF.
The award of Matron was announced on sunday, at the 2026 National Women’s Fellowship Rally, which held at the Luther Cathedral and National Headquarters of the church at Obot Idim Ibesikpo, in Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area.
Decorating Lady Obareki, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Inibehe Silas, with the uniform of the fellowship as Matron, the National Chairperson of the fellowship, Deaconess Eno Akpan said the award was in recognition and acknowledgement of the Coordinator’s outstanding record of impact in the service of God, her commitment to human development, as well as her remarkable contributions to the advancement of communities across Akwa Ibom State.
In a sermon on the theme “God Has Given Us a Living Hope”, drawn from 1st Peter chapter 1, verse 3–9, the National President of the Church, the Rev. Christian Ekong, admonished the women and Christians generally, to remain steadfast and focused on God, the author and finisher of their faith, regardless of the trials, temptations, and challenges encountered in daily life.
Listing the challenges faced in some parts of Nigeria that have generated the overwhelming feelings of fear and despondence within the body of Christ, Rev. Ekong said faith in God will empower every believer to hold on to God and “touch Him”, knowing that Christ is a catalyst for change.
Addressing the women, the Coordinator of the office of the First Lady, expressed gratitude over the invitation to fellowship with the women at their annual rally, applauding the women fellowship for always engaging their members with programmes that encourage them to uphold strong values of faith, virtue, and excellence.
She further commended the women of the Lutheran Church for the honour and for their constant support and identification with the office of the First Lady, while also enjoining them to pray for the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno and members of the Executive Council, for the successful implementation of the ARISE Agenda and other policies of the State Government, as well as for continuous peace in Akwa Ibom and Nigeria.
The 2026 National Women’s Rally which had as its theme: “Christ for you! A catalyst for change, TOUCH HIM”, brought together women from the 14 dioceses of the Lutheran Church Nigeria to fellowship, pray together and participate in the different sessions of words of exhortation and other bible based activities, to strengthen the faith of the women.
In the delegation from the office of the First Lady were the Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Council, Hon. Otobong Aaron; the wife of the Chairman of Etinan Local Government Council, Mrs Emily Umoh; and the Honorary Special Adviser to the Governor on Women Mobilization, Dr Ekemini Umoh.
