Troops from the 32 Artillery Brigade has neutralised two suspected armed terrorists and recovered weapons in tactical operation in Ondo State.
According to a statement issued by Major Irabor Njoka, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, and received from the Nigerian Army's X handle on Monday, the forces stationed at Forward Operating Base Auga carried out the operation along the Akunu-Auga Road on February 14, 2026.
The military acted based on genuine human intelligence about the movements of suspected criminals in the region. They quickly mobilised and apprehended the suspects.
"The subsequent contact with the armed elements resulted in a firefight, in which the troops' superior firepower resulted in the neutralisation of two terrorists, while others fled with suspected gunshot wounds."
"The operation was carried out in collaboration with officials from the Ondo State Security Network Agency and local vigilantes.
“Items recovered from the encounter with the criminals include one AK-47 rifle with two magazines and 61 rounds of ammunition, three mobile handsets, a jackknife, a torchlight, suspected illicit drugs, charms, and the sum of ₦39,000, among other personal effects,” the statement read.
The Brigade stated that the operation demonstrates the Nigerian Army's determination to deny criminal elements freedom of action and movement while also protecting lives and property throughout Ondo State.
It stated that forces would continue clearance and exploitation operations, increase patrols along recognised criminal corridors, and boost collaboration with other security agencies and local partners to maintain the state's security.
The Army urged the public to continue giving timely and credible information, emphasising that public collaboration is crucial to efforts to rid the state of criminal elements. This incident occurs against the backdrop of a greater increase in security activities across Nigeria.
The Ondo State Security Network Agency, commonly known as the Amotekun Corps, detained 95 suspected criminals throughout the state's 18 local government areas for a variety of infractions.
According to the state commander, the accused were allegedly involved in crimes like as kidnapping, theft, burglary, and illegal mining.
