PCRC HONOURS OGUN COMMUNITY LEADER, OLAKUNLE, AS GOLDEN PATRON

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has honoured the Asiwaju of Orile-Imo, High Chief Olakunle Olalekan, with the title of Golden Patron in recognition of his contributions to community development, philanthropy and peacebuilding.

The honour was conferred on him at the 2026 Patrons and Honorary Members’ Investiture and Awards Ceremony held on Saturday in Onikan, Lagos State.

The ceremony, themed “Police-Community Synergy for a Safer and More Secure Zone,” attracted senior police officers, PCRC officials, traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders.

Olakunle, who is also the Grand Patron of PCRC in Ogun State, was particularly recognised for his financial and moral support for the organisation and his efforts towards promoting peace and development in his community.

Speaking at the event, the Zonal Chairman of PCRC Zone 2, Ven. Samson Kunle Popoola, commended the community leader for his commitment to the growth of the committee.

Popoola stressed that security was a collective responsibility, noting that effective policing required strong cooperation between the police and members of the public through intelligence sharing, trust-building, community engagement and proactive crime prevention.

He said PCRC was established to bridge the gap between the Nigeria Police Force and the communities they serve, while reaffirming the committee’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with government institutions, traditional rulers, corporate organisations, youth and women groups.

The National Chairman of PCRC Nigeria and Overseas, Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan, also commended the newly invested patrons, saying they were selected based on their integrity and contributions to society.

Olaniyan specifically praised Olakunle for his peaceful disposition and commitment to community development, explaining that these qualities informed the decision to confer the Golden Patron title on him.

Responding, Olakunle expressed appreciation to the PCRC leadership for the recognition and pledged continued support for the organisation.

He said peace remained one of his major priorities, adding that he would continue to promote peaceful coexistence among residents. He also highlighted his contributions to the community through youth empowerment initiatives and support for the elderly and persons living with disabilities.

Olakunle commended the PCRC for its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force, describing the partnership as vital to building safer and more peaceful communities.
