The Ogun State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology has conducted screening exercises for more than 20,000 applicants seeking admission into the state’s 44 Flagship Secondary Schools across the three senatorial districts.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, disclosed this while monitoring the screening examination at selected schools across the Egba, Remo and Ijebu divisions of the state.
Arigbabu described the massive turnout of prospective learners as impressive, attributing the development to measures and educational initiatives introduced by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun.
He commended the governor for prioritising the provision of qualitative and accessible education, noting that the government had concluded plans for additional developmental interventions in schools to further enhance the learning environment and improve academic outcomes across the state.
The commissioner also revealed that all 44 Flagship Secondary Schools and eight technical colleges had been adequately equipped, while efforts had been made to provide conducive learning environments ahead of the new academic session.
Speaking on the conduct of the exercise, Arigbabu said he was satisfied with the level of organisation, adding that principals, teachers and candidates conducted themselves properly.
“Generally, I will say I’m very satisfied with what I have seen so far. The conduct of the exercise was smooth and impressive. Principals and teachers were fully on ground, learners well arranged on time. In all, I wish the candidates good luck,” he said.
Also speaking, the principals of Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode, and Remo Secondary School, Sagamu, Mr. Adewale Adekogbe and Mr. Samuel Soneye, respectively, commended the state government for putting the necessary mechanisms in place for the smooth conduct of the exercise.
They noted that the candidates arrived early and conducted themselves in an orderly manner.
A parent, Mr. Julius Okorie, who brought his grandson from Owerri to participate in the screening, also commended the ministry for the improvements recorded in the state’s education sector.
“I brought my grandson all the way from Owerri to participate in this exercise because of the desired standard that the present government has given education in the state,” he said.
Schools visited during the monitoring exercise included Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta; Abeokuta Grammar School, Idi-Aba; Remo Secondary School, Sagamu; Ijebu-Ode Grammar School, Ijebu-Ode; Muslim Girls High School, Ijebu-Ode; and Government Science and Technical College, Ijebu-Ode.
