The Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun, has described retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries as invaluable custodians of institutional memory whose wealth of experience continues to guide successive generations of public servants.
The governor made this known at the public presentation and launch of a book titled “Our Legacy, Our Pride,” authored by the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries of Ogun State, held at the June 12 Cultural Centre.
Represented by his deputy, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Abiodun noted that the civil/public service had remained the engine room of governance, contributing significantly to the state’s socio-economic and infrastructural development over the years.
He emphasised that the achievements recorded between 2016 and 2026, particularly under the current administration, were largely supported by the dedication and professionalism of the civil service.
According to him, the Ogun State civil service is built on enduring values of vision, integrity, professionalism and selfless service, adding that the publication represents a vital contribution to preserving the state’s institutional history.
The governor also commended the association for its continued intellectual and strategic contributions through policy guidance and advisory roles that have benefited successive administrations.
In his remarks, former Head of State and President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, traced the roots of the state’s civil service to the era of Simeon Adebo, noting that the strong foundation laid in those early years had sustained the system to date.
Also speaking, former Governor of Ogun State and Chairman of the occasion, Olusegun Osoba, described civil servants as symbols of discipline, resilience and dedication, recalling with pride the era of strong synergy between political leaders and the public service.
Earlier, Chairman of ARHSPS, Adeniyi Abiola, said the golden jubilee of Ogun State marks a significant milestone, adding that the book would serve as a repository of institutional knowledge and a reference material for evaluating public service performance.
Similarly, a retired Permanent Secretary and Chairman of the book launch sales committee, Nurudeen Oyedele, explained that the publication was primarily aimed at documentation, noting that the experiences captured in the book would serve as a guide for future administrators.
The event formed part of activities marking the 50th anniversary of Ogun State, celebrating the enduring legacy and contributions of its civil service.
