The Ogun State Government has intensified its investment in education infrastructure with the commissioning of new classroom blocks and other key facilities in Ota and Yewa South Local Government Areas, as part of efforts to enhance teaching and learning conditions across the state.
At the Local Government Commercial Secondary School, Atan, Ota, the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu, commissioned two blocks of eight modern classrooms, equipped with electricity and white marker boards. The project, executed under the Ogun Rehabilitation of Halls and Academic Buildings (OgunREHAB) initiative, is aimed at improving the academic environment for both students and teachers.
Speaking during the commissioning and handover ceremony, Arigbabu reiterated the commitment of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration to revitalising public schools across the state. He noted that the OgunREHAB programme had so far delivered no fewer than eight blocks of 32 classrooms, alongside the renovation of school halls, provision of perimeter fencing, and the equipping of laboratories with modern apparatus.
He assured that adequate furniture would soon be provided for the newly constructed classrooms and urged students to make proper use of the facilities. He also called on stakeholders to support the government’s ongoing efforts to reposition the education sector.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Oluwatosin Oloko, described the projects as a testament to the administration’s dedication to improving the welfare and learning conditions of students across Ogun State. She added that beneficiaries would remain appreciative of the government’s sustained interventions in the sector.
Parents and other stakeholders commended the state government for its proactive approach to educational development, noting that the improvements would significantly boost both teaching standards and student performance.
In a related development, the Commissioner also commissioned several projects at Iyewa High School, Ajilete, in Yewa South Local Government Area. The projects include a newly constructed perimeter fence, renovation of three classroom blocks, provision of toilet facilities, and a borehole for water supply.
The projects at Iyewa High School were facilitated by the Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Engineers, Major General Shamsideen Shafau, whose contribution was lauded by the state government.
Chairman of Yewa South Local Government, Hon. Abraham Ogunsola, highlighted the importance of the projects, stating that the perimeter fence would enhance security, while the improved classrooms and water supply would create a more conducive environment for learning.
The event also featured the presentation of awards to Prof. Arigbabu, Mrs. Oloko, and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Education, Hon. Idowu Daniel, in recognition of their contributions to the advancement of education in the state.
