The Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun on Wednesday congratulated the state's Muslim and Christian faithful on the start of the Ramadan and Lenten fasts, calling the season as one of spiritual rebirth and rejuvenation.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta, the governor stated that abstaining from food and earthly pleasures symbolises a genuine desire to draw closer to God, seek divine guidance, and pray for the growth and development of families, communities, Ogun State, and Nigeria in general.
Abiodun emphasised that the coincidence of Ramadan and Lent starting around the same time highlighted Muslims and Christians' similar ideals of faith, sacrifice, generosity, and good actions.
He believes that prayers and supplications performed during the fasting season will spiritually benefit Ogun State and the nation.
"As a people, we are united by our great trust in God, and the fasting period marks a time of reconnecting with God and receiving spiritual blessings. "Your prayers, support, and good wishes have enabled us to achieve modest goals throughout the last six years and more.
"As the Ramadan and Lenten fasts continue, please be assured of our administration's renewed commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and creating a prosperous future for all of us."
"We will not fail you. I encourage sustained prayer for the country, the Presidency, Ogun, and other states, so that we might all live in divine delight and assurance."
The governor wished both Muslim and Christian believers a spiritually fulfilling fasting time and prayed for peace, progress, and harmony throughout the state.
