Ogun State has reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging technology as a catalyst for development, positioning itself as a leading sub-national player in digital transformation across Nigeria.
The State Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya, made this known while declaring a two-day Executive Strategic Retreat on Artificial Intelligence (AI) Leadership and Digital Transformation for top public and civil service officials in Abeokuta.
The retreat, held at the state’s Tech Hub, was organised by the Ogun State Government in partnership with GFA Technologies, with support from the United States Consulate General.
Onasanya said the initiative reflects the administration’s forward-thinking approach to governance, noting that the government of Dapo Abiodun has prioritised innovation and digitalisation as key tools for improving service delivery.
He explained that the state’s vision to deploy artificial intelligence across critical sectors demonstrates a clear policy direction towards modernisation, adding that sustained investments in digital systems have enhanced efficiency, accountability and transparency in governance.
Describing the retreat as timely, the Head of Service said it underscores the need for the civil service to adapt to evolving global technological trends, while equipping top officials with the knowledge required to address operational challenges.
He identified key inefficiencies within the system to include delays in file processing, bottlenecks in memo handling and limited access to reliable data for decision-making, stressing that modern governance requires integrated and automated systems.
Onasanya highlighted some of the state’s strides in AI deployment, including the launch of the Ogun Learning Enhancement and Academic Resource Network (OgunLearn), the introduction of AI-enabled lesson planning tools, digital learning management systems, and the development of the Ogun State Spatial Data Infrastructure to improve coordination across Ministries, Departments and Agencies.
He urged participants comprising Permanent Secretaries, the Accountant General, Auditors General, Directors General, education administrators and health sector leaders to embrace innovation, dismantle institutional barriers and create an enabling environment for new ideas to thrive.
In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of GFA Technologies, Adebola Omololu, said the retreat was designed to help top government functionaries develop practical solutions that would enhance operational efficiency across MDAs and boost Internally Generated Revenue.
The retreat is expected to equip participants with the skills and insights needed to drive digital transformation and strengthen governance in Ogun State.
