The Federal Government has expressed readiness to adopt and replicate the technological innovations introduced in the education sector by the administration of Governor Dapo Abiodun, as part of efforts to strengthen data management and improve learning outcomes across the country.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, disclosed this during the March edition of the Monthly Peering Webinar of the Committee of States' Commissioners of Education in Nigeria. He noted that the Federal Ministry of Education would undertake a study visit to Ogun State to gain deeper insight into the state’s digital education framework, including its implementation strategies and challenges.
Represented by the National Coordinator of the Nigerian Education Data Infrastructure, Dr. Abubakar Isah, the Minister said the initiative would enhance evidence-based policymaking and support effective decision-making in the education sector.
He explained that the NEDI initiative was established to address persistent data challenges in schools, stressing that accurate and accessible data is critical to planning and delivering quality education. He added that the Federal Government aims to ensure that every learner across the country is assigned a trackable identity within a centralised database.
Alausa commended the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abayomi Arigbabu, for pioneering reforms that have positioned the state as a model for others to emulate.
Responding, Prof. Arigbabu lauded the Federal Government for the initiative, describing it as a bold step towards repositioning Nigeria’s education sector. He pledged the state’s full cooperation in supporting efforts to scale up the innovation nationwide.
The move signals a significant step towards the digital transformation of Nigeria’s education system, with Ogun State’s model set to play a central role in shaping future policies and reforms.
