The Federal Government has intensified its Renewed Hope humanitarian intervention with the distribution of debit cards to an additional 6,000 households in Ogun State, in a renewed effort to cushion economic hardship and alleviate poverty.
The initiative, implemented under the Household Prosperity and Empowerment (HoPE) Cash Transfer Programme, is designed to provide direct financial support to vulnerable households across the country.
Speaking during the debit card distribution exercise in Sagamu, the State Programme Manager, Mr. Damilola Owoojuona, explained that the exercise was being carried out in phases. He noted that the current phase specifically targets unbanked beneficiaries across the state.
Owoojuona recalled that between November and December 2025, no fewer than 23,000 residents in Ogun State had already benefited from the programme since its inception. He assured those enlisted in the National Social Register that more beneficiaries would be reached as the intervention progresses.
He emphasised that the scheme aims to deliver measurable impact by improving household income and strengthening economic resilience among vulnerable populations.
Some beneficiaries who spoke with journalists commended the initiative, describing it as transparent, inclusive, and free from political or religious bias. Among them, Mrs. Kassim Dayo, Mrs. Onyeke Jane, and Mr. Ajayi Sikiru praised the programme for its fairness and reliability.
In a similar development in Ado-Odo/Ota, another beneficiary, Mrs. Ogunseye Rebecca, expressed gratitude to both the Federal and State Governments for the intervention, noting that the financial support would significantly boost her trading business and improve her livelihood.
The Renewed Hope initiative continues to serve as a critical social safety net, targeting thousands of Nigerians with direct financial assistance aimed at reducing poverty and enhancing economic stability.
