The Ogun State Government has distributed bags of rice to churches in Ijebu-Ode Local Government Area as part of activities marking Palm Sunday, bringing relief and joy to Christian faithful ahead of the Easter celebrations.
The distribution exercise took place at the Cathedral Church of St. Saviour, Itawalajoda, and Foursquare Gospel Church Ita-Ale, where beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the timely intervention.
Speaking with journalists, Reverend Canon Adelakun Samuel of the Cathedral Church of St. Saviour commended the state government for the gesture, noting that the rice donation would provide much-needed support to families during the festive period. He also offered prayers for the administration.
Similarly, the District Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church, Ita-Ale, Reverend Adetayo Jokotagba, lauded Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as a thoughtful and compassionate initiative.
“We appreciate the Governor for this gesture, especially at this challenging time. For the government to remember the people is commendable,” he said, adding that the support would go a long way in assisting households during Easter.
Some beneficiaries, including Mrs. Tayo Ogunaike and Mr. John Aderinokun, also expressed gratitude to the state government, noting that the rice palliative would significantly ease the burden on families.
