Ogun State's 50th anniversary celebrations has continued with a dazzling cultural carnival and road show that brought colour, music, and excitement to key streets in Abeokuta, the state capital.
The procession comprised of six artistically adorned floats representing the state's key areas — Remo, Ijebu, Yewa, and Egba (RIYE), as well as a symbolic fish float showcasing riverine settlements, all of which celebrated Ogun's rich cultural diversity.
Speaking during the ceremony at the MKO Abiola Sports Arena in Kuto, Abeokuta, Governor Dapo Abiodun underlined the state's growing significance in Nigeria, crediting its growth to its people's tenacity, ingenuity, and hard work.
He praised the funfair as a dramatic demonstration of Ogun's cultural strength and organisational capacity, emphasising the state's ability to flourish economically and socially.
"Our sense of state pride has reached an all-time high. What we experienced today — from sunrise to night — was astonishing, spectacular, and absolutely inspiring."
Governor Abiodun thanked previous leaders for setting the groundwork for the state's progress, as well as government servants whose hard work has immensely contributed to the state's growing economy.
According to him, Ogun's achievements are the result of decades of sacrifice, dedication, and joint work, which have transformed the state into a proud cultural hub with consistent growth across sectors.
The governor stated that the funfair was intended to foster togetherness, heritage, and resilience, and that the golden jubilee celebration reflected the people's shared identity and pride.
He assured locals that his administration will remain committed to people-focused policies and long-term development throughout the state.
The events drew over 3,000 indigenes from 20 local government areas, as well as traditional dancers, drummers, masquerades, folkloric performers, skaters, and motorcyclists, who created a lively environment across the city.
A vibrant parade from Oke-Igbein through Omida and Oke-Ilewo culminated in the MKO Abiola Sports Arena, where cultural exhibits, acrobatic performances, and music delighted onlookers even more.
