The Executive Chairman of Yewa South Local Government Area, Barrister Abraham Ogunsola, has presented the proposed 2026 budget to the Legislative Council, outlining key policy directions and development priorities aimed at accelerating grassroots development and improving residents’ welfare.
The presentation, held at the Council Chamber in Ilaro, was attended by members of the Legislative Council, top government officials, and other stakeholders within the local government.
Describing the budget as a strategic financial blueprint, Ogunsola said the proposal seeks to consolidate the achievements of his administration while addressing pressing socio-economic challenges across the council area.
He noted that the budget prioritises people-oriented programmes and projects designed to directly impact the lives of residents and promote sustainable development in Yewa South.
According to the chairman, critical sectors captured in the proposal include infrastructure development, healthcare delivery, education, agriculture, youth empowerment, and environmental sanitation.
Ogunsola reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prudent financial management, transparency, and accountability in the implementation of the budget once approved.
Providing a breakdown of the projected revenue, he disclosed that N17.3 billion, representing 96 per cent, is expected from the Federation Account as statutory allocation, while N99.2 million, representing one per cent, is projected from internally generated revenue (IGR). Additionally, N600 million, accounting for three per cent, is anticipated from capital receipts.
The chairman appealed to the Legislative Council to give the proposal prompt and careful consideration to ensure timely execution of projects and programmes that would enhance socio-economic growth in the area.
He also reaffirmed the readiness of the executive arm to collaborate closely with the legislature in delivering meaningful development and democratic dividends to the people.
Responding, the Leader of the House, Hon. Lukmon Ibrahim, commended the chairman for the presentation and assured that the council would subject the proposal to thorough scrutiny to ensure it aligns with the aspirations of the people of Yewa South.
